Desired pregnancy

You are pregnant and have decided to carry the pregnancy.

If you have never had an ultrasound examination before, it is advisable to check the position and age of the pregnancy with ultrasound.

If this is your first pregnancy, you probably have a lot of questions.

In case of a normal pregnancy, you can, if you wish, have Dr. Walther carry out further pregnancy checks until the 38th week of pregnancy. You will then be referred to the maternity clinic of your choice. Alternatively, we can give you your documents and you can contact a gynecologist of your choice.

There are 7 regular check-ups during a normal pregnancy. 2 ultrasound examinations are regularly paid for by your health insurance. In case of problems, the doctor decides which additional controls and ultrasound examinations are necessary. In the 13th week of pregnancy, the first ultrasound (biometry 1, with the first trimester test and neck wrinkle measurement) takes place. If you wish, an individualized risk assessment for Down’s syndrome (trisomy 21) can be carried out. Any abnormal results will be confirmed by further tests. Only the invasive tests (chorionic villus biopsy, amniotic fluid puncture = amniotic centesis) are completely reliable. In week 21 the 2nd ultrasound takes place (biometry 2, organ screening).

There are regular checks of blood pressure, urine and blood. In addition, various diseases in the vaginal smear and blood are tested at the beginning of pregnancy, and your immunity to them is checked. (Varicella, Rubella, HIV, Hepatits B and C, Lues, Chlamydia, etc.).
Especially at the beginning of pregnancy, take one folic acid tablet daily. Avoid smoking, alcohol and drugs! If you are not underweight, you may want to lose weight rather than gain weight in the first few months. A balanced diet with fruits and vegetables is recommended.
Congratulations and very best wishes!
